Why do people write memoirs?
What power is there in telling our own stories?
People write memoirs to tell other people about their life and to come to terms with things that have happened to them. For someone like Richard Wright, it might be therapy for him to write about his abusive family. By writing about it, he can reflect about why they treated him badly with a more clear mind. People who think that they are important or think they have exciting lives are more likely to write memoirs than people who don't. This is because they think people will want to read it. People write memoirs to entertain others with the crazy things that have happened to them in life. Politicians and musicians write memoirs to make money. Students write memoirs to fulfill the requirements of their English class.
The power in telling our stories goes back to the human need of being loved. If we are loved, then people will want to know about our lives. We want to feel needed, and if people are asking to hear our stories, that is exactly how we feel. Our stories can be the key to our soul, and it is very powerful if someone else knows who you are, who you really are as a person.

Boo! Students write memoirs to fulfill English class requirements! If you can't find meaning in your education, then you are in trouble! I agree that writing can be a form of therapy for people.
HAHAHA I liked your response it was really well thought out and then at the end...shut down hahahhaa. Ya. Good job. I liked the reason that Richard may have written his story for therapy. Writing, in a way, is therapy. Putting all your thoughts on paper is a way of organizing your day and it can be very soothing. Istn't that why people have diaries?

This is a nice peice of writing, and i like the homework line.
Your examples on different authors and their respective memoirs really hit the target. I agree that politicians earn loads of cash from scribing silly stories(Bill Clinton) and that people with interesting lives are more likely to write about themselves.

Nice. I like the different perspectives, like politicians write memoirs for money, and some excited people share memoirs because they're interesting. I do agree that WE write memoirs for English requirments. hahaha very nice.
I really like how you talk about what kinds of things cause people to write the memoirs and how it can be therapy for them. I also agree with how you think that it is important to let people know our real selves.Good job!
